Madonna uploaded a photo of England’s first ever female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher onto Instagram ahead of the UK general election on May 7th 2015. This was not a smart move by Madonna as Margaret Thatcher is despised around the world for her sinful actions across England when she reigned as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990.
In the caption for the image Madonna wrote:
“If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at anytime, and would achieve nothing. Thank you Margaret Thatcher! #unapologetic #rebelheart”
Soon after the photo received a lot of backlash, Madonna deleted the post minutes later. It’s understandable that Madonna wasn’t referencing Margaret Thatcher’s professional accolades but referencing that people who get stuff done generally aren’t well liked by the masses.
You might not know but Margaret Thatcher is despised for a variety of reasons such as:
- Taking away free milk in schools for children and in some cases the free milk was all the children could drink as poverty was high back then.
- Closing the coal mines and in turn forced thousands of people into poverty, unemployment and suicide.
- Didn’t have a heart and did whatever benefited her best interests, even if that meant thousands of people had to suffer in the process.
Do you think Madonna was right to thank former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher?
