The review. Katy Perry is on a mission with her fifth studio album to make “purposeful pop” but ‘Bon Appétit’ is a much-needed break from mind-numbing political music.
‘Bon Appétit’ is a great all-round pop track that delivers what people come to expect. The song is not really about cooking or “the world’s best pie”.
The energy and momentum of ‘Bon Appétit’ goes up and down throughout – which makes the song a hit and miss, at times.
As a result ‘Bon Appétit’ should be more beats focused and less focus placed on slowing down and picking back up.
The inclusion of rent a rappers Migos is a detour through unneeded ingredients that do not add or subtract from the quality of music but really, they are not needed to begin with.
Some of the saucier lyrics include:
Let me take you
Under candle light
We can wine and dine
A table for two
And it’s okay
If you take your time
Eat with your hands, fine
I’m on the menu
‘Bon Appétit’ has great production and the producers really left their mark but there is still a lot to be desired.
Seems like the song will not appeal to everyone but it will appeal to more people than the mediocre first single “Chained to the Rhythm.”
- So now, it is all about the music video!
- How many spins radio will give the track?
- How many people purchase song on iTunes?
‘Bon Appétit’ is electric in some parts but in other parts, it all feels lackluster.
Consequently, ‘Bon Appétit’ is a great pop song but not something people will remember years from now. Is that going to stop the momentum? No!
For the review, we rate Katy Perry’s ‘Bon Appétit’ ★ 4 / 5 stars ★
Finally perfect modern pop without the mind-numbing so-called “purposeful pop” attached!
