The evidence is mounting up that Sony is in fact about to release a PlayStation 4.5 console in the distant future. Sky Q and BT UHD boxes have been released for television viewing, but we’ve yet to have a console that can output raw 4k resolution on the latest ultra-high definition television screens.
The PlayStation 4.5 console is set to have increased graphical power to run games at the standard rate for 4k. There is no word if previous console owners of the PlayStation 4 can mod the console to increase performance. If not – this is going to anger everyone who purchased the PlayStation 4 when it came out, thus allowing Sony to have a lead on the Xbox.
The console will include support for PlayStation Virtual Reality. This is a headset that will be attached to the existing PlayStation. Word has been spreading that developers got briefed at the 2016 Game Developers Conference this past week and will start to build games around it.
The likelihood is that future games will support 4k and improved graphics performance, but existing games will just play on the regular 1080p output on the new PlayStation 4.5.
There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the leaked information of the PlayStation 4.5 as Nintendo and Microsoft will not allow Sony to get a head start. Where there is money to be made, there is a battle between all consoles to have the highest sales and be in first place.
